Reformed Periodical Index

Search the Reformed Periodical Index (RPI)

RPI indexes Clarion, Diakonia, Reformed Perspective and more.

What is RPI?

The Reformed Periodical Index or RPI, as it is commonly referred to, is an index to Reformed magazines. It is a tool to find articles published on a topic or by an author. It is not a full-text database.

What is indexed?

Clarion, Diakonia, Koinoinia, Preach the Word, and Reformed Perspective (main articles) are indexed by the librarian at CRTS. Lux Mundi is also indexed, starting with volume 25 (2006). Some of the data has come from different databases, so the data for older publications lacks consistency, but it is still useful to find articles.

How do I search for a Bible passage?

To search for an article or sermon on a particular Bible passage, follow the guide below:

  • Do a general search using the quick search box for a book of the Bible: e.g., James, Corinthians, etc.
  • If you wish to be more specific, then type searches in the quick search box in the following manner:
    • For example, if you are searching for 1 Corinthians 5, type: Corinthians, 1st, V
    • For James 4, type: James, IV
    • Note: Bible chapters are always in Roman numerals (where I=1, V=5, X=10, L=50, and C=100) and verses are in Arabic numerals (e.g. 1, 2, 3). E.g., James, IV, 1-4 is James 4:1-4.
  • It is best not to try and search for a specific verse, but to search only at the chapter level.

How do I interpret the search results?

When you see a list of search results, you will see the author and title information, as well as some basic publication information, such as the title of the magazine, the volume and issue date. The image below is one entry taken from a longer list.

When you click on the title of a search result in the list, you will see additional information. In the illustration below, you see the following information :

  • the title as a heading;
  • the “Publication details” line shows the title of the magazine, as well as the volume and issue date;
  • the “Description” shows which page(s) you can find the article on in the magazine;
  • the subject of the article is Luke 18:13. Chapters of Bible books are always shown in Roman numerals.

Now you are ready to find the article in print or online to read it.

Where can I find the articles that are indexed?

The Reformed Periodical Index is not full-text, so you will need to find the article in print or online to read it. The following websites are good places to find some of the articles:
